What is Coronavirus? Coronavirus or Covid-19 is a newly discovered virus that is very contagious and spreads or infects people through small droplets that enter from mouth or nose, via coughing or sneezing (as per the World Health Organization). This virus enters the human body and infects cells to use them as workshops to make innumerable copies of themselves. Thus, the virus that initially enters the body results in millions of viruses in the system that can have a devastating effect on the health of the infected person. Needless to mention, Coronavirus infection can also result in death. The common symptoms of Coronavirus infection range from common cold to Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) coronavirus. How contagious is the Coronavirus? Coronavirus is one of the most infectious and deadly viruses that the human race has witnessed in the recent times, and half of the world under lock down is a testimony to this fact. This virus spreads not only through direct inhalation, but also spreads by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the T-zone (eyes, nose and mouth) of your face. This highly infectious virus can persevere on most surfaces for several hours to a few days. Some reports also claim that this virus can transmit through the feces of infected persons, but that needs to be confirmed by scientific evidences. Unfortunately, coronavirus will not fade in summer Some experts had hoped that the virus will not spread as vehemently in hot and humid regions, but many reputable organizations such as European Center for Disease Control and World Health organization (WHO) have refuted such claims. As many of us already know, there is no proven treatment for coronavirus and medical professionals are just treating the symptoms right now. Coronavirus is most contagious during the first week of infection As per scientific reports, coronavirus is most infectious before and during the first week of infection or symptoms. The multiplication of the virus in the infected person slows down after the antibody response kicks in. It must be noted that this infection can spread even before people start showing symptoms. What to do if you are sick?
If you suspect that you are infected with coronavirus or Covid-19 virus and start showing symptoms such as cough, fever and difficulty in breathing, then you should take steps to isolate yourself and limit contact with others to help prevent further spread of this disease. You should immediately call your doctor or healthcare provider and seek medical advice. |
